Salakos Christos

Paediatric Surgeon - Paediatric Urologist - Laparoscopic Surgeon

Professor Christos Salakos graduated from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1979. He completed his training in General and Pediatric Surgery in Athens and graduated as a Pediatric Surgeon in 1990. With a thesis on experimental esophageal grafting, he received his Ph.D. from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1988.

Having moved to Paris in 1990, Dr. Salakos worked as “Chef de Clinique” at l’hôpital “Nécker-Enfants Malades,” a very well-known and highly specialized children’s hospital on an international level. In 1992 he then joined as “Chef de Clinique” des Universités, at l’Hôpital Universitaire « Gatient de Clocheville in Tours for two years. Since 1994, he has worked as an “Assistant temps plein” at the University Hospital of Lille, a large hospital with 4.500 beds.

After returning to Greece in 1996, he worked in the Pediatric Surgical department of the “Aglaïa Kyriakou” Children’s Hospital in Athens for two years as a consultant and expert in laparoscopic surgery and pediatric renal transplantation.

In 1998, he returned to Lille, France, and obtained the title of “Practicien Hospitalier” in the French National Health System and a job at Roubaix General Hospital in collaboration with the University Hospital of Lille. During his 11 years of work in France, he gained extensive experience in General Pediatric Surgery, Neonatal Surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, Pediatric Urology, including surgeries for disorders of sex differentiation, Renal Transplantations, and Surgical Oncology.

An opportunity arose when he returned to Greece in 2003 at the University of Patras, where he was appointed as Assistant Professor of Pediatric Surgery.

In 2010, he obtained the title of Assistant Professor from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and in 2019, the title of Associate Professor of this University. Currently, he is collaborating at the University of Athens as Emeritus Professor.

Since 2010, he has been Director of the 1st Pediatric Surgery Department at the IASO Children’s Hospital, affiliated with IASO Maternity, a recognized third reference center for neonatology in Greece, with a minimum of 10,000 labors per year, and has successfully performed surgeries even in very low birth-weight preemies.
